Minnesota Vikings will face a challenge on ‘Monday Night Football’ that is both preventable and entirely out of their control

This is unacceptable by any standard of quality control.

The Minnesota Vikings are set to make their 2025 season debut, and it will take place Monday night against the Chicago Bears.

Soldier Field has been a house of horrors for the Vikings over the last 30 seasons. Now, the Vikings haven’t lost there since 2019, but from 2001-2019, they had lost 16 of their 19 games, no matter how good or bad each team was. They lost in a variety of wild ways, some of which were more heartbreaking than others. One of the biggest constants when playing at Soldier Field has been the playing surface, and it could be once again.

Playing surface at Soldier Field could be catastrophic for Vikings

The playing surface once again looks like it’s going to be a huge problem. Chris Hawkey with the Vikings Entertainment Network took a picture of the field from the radio booth, and it’s alarming.

You can see the lines in the field where the sod was placed. That’s incredibly alarming! How can you ask NFL players to play on a surface so poor? We also have to answer the question as to why they are playing on such a poor surface. Well, the stadium ended up hosting five concerts in five days over Labor Day weekend, and they replaced the surface afterward. How is that your cause of action to make sure that players are taken care of from a health and safety perspective?

The surface could also prevent the Vikings from playing their starting left tackle, Christian Darrisaw, who was listed as questionable going into the game, because they don’t want him to reinjure the knee.

The game will kick off just after 7 p.m. CT, and it’s going to be an interesting one for reasons outside of J.J. McCarthy‘s NFL and primetime debut.
