The Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18 and had a great performance on ‘Thursday Night Football,’ but not everything is great news in Green Bay. During his post-game press conference, head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that wide receiver Jayden Reed broke his collarbone during the win.

“He’s going to miss a lot of time. He broke his collarbone, so he’ll be down for quite some time,” LaFleur revealed. “We’ll see how fast he can recover and heal. I would expect him back at some point this season. It’s a big blow to us. He’s a catalyst for our offense and our football team. The energy he brings. He’s a dog. He comes out there and he’s going to compete. He plays tough, physical. He’s a playmaker.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Reed is expected to miss something around six and eight weeks. Therefore, the receiver will be placed on injured reserve.

Opportunity for other players

A second-round pick in 2023, Jayden Reed has been the most productive receiver for the Packers. He led the team in receiving yards in each of the past two years.

Now that he’s expected to miss half of the regular season, other offensive weapons will have to step up and play at a higher level.

“Fortunately for us, we have a pretty deep wide receiver room,” LaFleur added. “There are going to be opportunities for other guys to step up and take advantage of.”

Beyond Reed, the Packers’ wide receiver room has Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, and Malik Heath. Mecole Hardman, Will Sheppard, and Isaiah Neyor are on the practice squad. Moreover, Christian Watson is still on PUP, but is expected to return at some point during the season.

The play

Jayden Reed got hurt in the first quarter of the Commanders game, when he had an amazing catch and scored a touchdown. However, the play was called back due to a holding penalty from right tackle Anthony Belton.

Reed left the game with his shoulder injury and was eventually ruled out. Now, the Packers will miss their slot receiver for several games.
