ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit (along with Chris Fowler) will be in Knoxville on Saturday afternoon to call the game between the Tennessee Vols and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Herbstreit joined The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday to discuss this weekend’s action, and he dropped a reminder about the Bulldogs that UGA head coach Kirby Smart almost certainly won’t appreciate.

Smart is a wizard when it comes to finding ways to motivate his team. There’s no doubt that Smart is telling his players this week that no one in the national media believes in the Bulldogs after Georgia’s uneven performance in a 28-6 win against Austin Peay last weekend.

Herbstreit, however, was quick to remind folks on Thursday that Georgia is still Georgia.

“Wow, they can fly” – Kirk Herbstreit reminds everyone that Georgia is still a force

Herbstreit noted during his segment with McAfee that Georgia is flying under the radar early this season — especially following the Austin Peay game.

But after watching the film, Herbstreit feels like the Bulldogs have “reloaded”

“When I turned on the film to look at Georgia — because there’s a lot of new faces on that Georgia defense — they are still recruiting and developing,” said Herbstreit. “Wow, they can fly. They’re physical, [they’re] athletic. They’ve just completely reloaded, and they can get after it.”

“I feel like people are forgetting a little bit about Georgia, forgetting a little bit about Oregon, as far as who are the teams that can make a run and be there at the end,” added Herbstreit. “And I think Georgia this week will be fun to kind of really see where they are because this will be a good test for them, obviously going on the road in Knoxville.”

Smart isn’t fooling anyone this week. Georgia is still good. Really good. They’re still the standard. The Bulldogs are the program in the SEC that everyone else is chasing.

I’m sure Smart wanted to hear as much negativity from the national media as possible this week, so he could gaslight his players into thinking that no one believes in them. But Herbstreit’s reminder will make that difficult.

As much as Smart doesn’t want to admit it, the Bulldogs are the hunted, not the hunters.

‘The kids are going to be slow to say it’ – Report sheds light on the differences at Tennessee between Nico Iamaleava and Joey Aguilar

Quite a few Tennessee Vols players are still close with former UT quarterback Nico Iamaleava following the former five-star recruit’s highly publicized departure from Knoxville earlier this year. And that’s not a surprise. Vols head coach Josh Heupel pointed out at SEC Media Days in July that Tennessee’s players cared about Iamaleava. “Our football team, […]
