For their matchup against the Michigan Wolverines, the Oklahoma Sooners hosted a slew of recruits across the 2026, 2027, and 2028 classes. These recruits were some of the top across each class, especially in the 2027 and 2028 classes as the Sooners look to regain their momentum on the recruiting front.

Their statement victory and the sold-out crowd helped sell the Sooners to the visiting recruits, with numerous recruits delivering some positively glowing reviews following their visit over the weekend. However, there is a unique recruitment the Sooners are hotly pursuing to boost the future of the program, and it’s one that could bring some serious prestige to the Oklahoma program.

2028 five-star Gaige Weddle (the son of Eric Weddle) is the number-one ATH in the country in the class of 2028, and the California native is one of the highest-priority recruits the Sooners are in hot pursuit of. Thanks to his visit this weekend, it seems like the Sooners made quite a statement.

Eric Weddle’s Son Blown Away By Sooners Fans

It was a sold-out crowd in Norman, Oklahoma for this epic non-conference showdown, and the crowd of 84,107 fans delivered a raucous environment that played a key role in Oklahoma earning their win over the weekend.

It’s safe to say that the recruits took notice of the fans, and Weddle said it best in an interview with SoonerScoop.

“The atmosphere at the game was unreal. I’ve never been to an SEC game before and what better game to go to than that. The fans were intense, you could feel the energy and tradition. The overall experience was one I wont forget and I am grateful to have the opportunity to come out to Norman and see what they are building.”

Weddle is a two-way star, playing both quarterback and safety for Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, and the Sooners treated him as such. Oklahoma rolled out the red carpet of their coaching staff, and Weddle met with them all.

Weddle met with Brent Venables, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, quarterback coach John Kuceyeski, safeties coach Brandon Hall, and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai on his visit.

His recruitment will be a long process. As a 2028 recruit, this could take years before Weddle makes an official decision on where he will spend his collegiate career. With him being one of the top recruits out of a recruiting hotbed like California, every top program in the country will be in hot pursuit of Weddle.

Despite his age, he already holds offers from Oklahoma, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Tennessee, and his father’s alma mater, Utah.
