Bills’ Joey Bosa put the league on notice and had a hilarious message for opposing fans plus other takeaways from Week 2 win vs. Jets
The Buffalo Bills pulled off a thrilling victory over the New York Jets in Week 2 of the NFL season.
The Buffalo Bills defeated their division rivals, the New York Jets, in Week 2 of the NFL season, 30-10. While Josh Allen didn’t put on his Superman cape and throw for 251 yards in the fourth quarter, he didn’t have to, like he did in Week 1. The offense did what it needed to secure the victory, and the entire defense made a statement.
After Week 1, the Bills Mafia was nervous about how the defense would respond. The Jets’ game plan would be similar to the Baltimore Ravens’ in hopes of controlling the clock and moving the football down the field.
Buffalo shut them down nearly every step of the way with a thrilling victory to remain undefeated.
Joey Bosa put on a clinic in Week 2 vs. the Jets
When the Buffalo Bills signed Joey Bosa to a one-year deal, they were hoping he would be a difference-maker on the defensive side of the football. After two weeks, it looks like Buffalo may have gotten the steal of the offseason since Bosa has shown up in some big moments.
Against the Jets, Bosa had a forced fumble on Justin Fields — he now has a forced fumble in back-to-back weeks.
Not only that, but he added two tackles, a sack, and a tackle for loss in the contest. His message was loud and clear: he’s healthy and ready to take the league by storm. He looked right at home, flashing a parting gift to Jets fans that only added to his stardom.
Scary incident involving Josh Allen didn’t slow down the Bills
But the biggest scare of the day came early, when Allen took a shot to the face and was seen bleeding. He quickly exited the contest, which had the fan base more than a little nervous. Luckily, he returned relatively quickly and picked right back up where he left off.
Despite not putting up insane numbers, Allen did enough to help build a huge lead for Buffalo. In the fourth quarter, Mitch Trubisky came in, which ended Allen’s day.
The reigning MVP finished going 14-for-25 with 148 yards and added six carries for 59 yards on the ground. He didn’t register a touchdown in the contest, but also didn’t have a turnover.
It was a clean day of football from QB1, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t put his athleticism on full display. Allen scampered for a 40-yard run early in the game, which was one of the longest runs in his career.
For the offense, it was the James Cook show. Cook looked worth every penny of his massive contract extension after finishing his day with 21 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the first half. Cook flashed throughout and took this game away from the Jets early on.
Defense bounces back in Week 2 win against the New York Jets
Outside of Bosa making his presence felt, the entire defense showed up in a big way. After the Baltimore Ravens scored 40 points on the defense, there was a lot to clean up.
Head coach Sean McDermott stated that practice would be more intense during the week to prepare the team for the showdown. Whatever McDermott did appeared to work as the entire unit looked ready to compete from the jump.
In just the first half alone, the Bills limited the Jets to two completions, total. It was the first time the Bills had done so since the 2021 season against the Patriots.
While the Jets scored in garbage time, Buffalo’s defense showed up and showed out. They had four total sacks, three passes defended, and seven quarterback hits throughout. The Jets were limited to 11 total first downs, they went 0-11 on third down conversions, and they ran only 47 plays for a total of 154 yards of offense.
Buffalo, once again, won the turnover battle, which is the 24th straight game without losing the turnover battle – the longest streak by any team since 1966.
There was a lot to be excited for in the matchup, and the team won’t have long to ruminate on the win as they have a short week ahead of their Thursday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins.
For now, the team remains undefeated, and it should excite the fan base to see such a dominant win with Allen not setting the world on fire with his statistics.
