Buccaneers receive a huge boost ahead of Jets matchup and they didn’t even have to lift a finger to make it happen
The Bucs now know which quarterback they’ll face on Sunday when they play the Jets.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to start 3-0 for the first time under Todd Bowles and since the 2005 season, after back-to-back, come-from-behind wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans.
Well, the Bucs just received some major news that can certainly help them beat the New York Jets this week, and it comes in the form of Justin Fields’ unavailability due to a concussion.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets went ahead and ruled Fields out on Wednesday. Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor will start in his stead.
No Justin Fields makes the Jets offense much less dynamic
Fields, while inconsistent, is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL because of his ability to throw deep and rip defenses apart on the ground with his legs. Taylor provides more stability and steady play, but his ceiling is nowhere near Fields’ when it comes to explosive plays.
Taylor looked OK against the Buffalo Bills, completing seven-of-11 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. The key with his numbers is that he played in garbage time and got the offense into the end zone once in two drives.
He’s a smart veteran who knows how to operate an offense and limit mistakes. While a Fields-less Jets offense isn’t as dangerous, the Bucs still need to be ready for Taylor. Wednesday’s news is certainly a win for Tampa Bay, though.
