The 2026 recruiting class for the Ohio State Buckeyes has been an interesting one. Ohio State has 21 players committed so far with this group of seniors and the No. 9-ranked class in the country, per 247 Sports. Ohio State has missed on a number of key recruits through the summer months, which caused them to fall out of having a top-five class. However, the Buckeyes have time to add to their class and it looks like they’re beginning to circle back around on some recruits.

The Ohio State Buckeyes look to be going after a key Florida State commitment and the son of an NFL great

Ohio State has just one cornerback committed for the class of 2025, so naturally they’ve extended an offer to a player they’re looking to chase rather late in the cycle. 2026 Pine-Richland (GA) CB Jay Timmons recently picked up an offer from the Buckeyes and he has been committed to Florida State since the end of June. Timmons is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who played 11 years in the NFL with 172 games played at the highest level.

Timmons is originally from Pennsylvania, so coming back north wouldn’t be a major surprise. According to 247 Sports Composite, Timmons is the No. 17 cornerback and No. 161 overall player in the class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback has over 20 offers with programs like Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa extending an offer. Timmons is an athlete at cornerback with some real track speed, as he is a sprinter as well.  Four-star cornerback Jordan Thomas is the only cornerback committed to the Buckeyes in this class and he’s a good one. However, the Buckeyes should add another cornerback with Davison Igbinosun and Jermaine Mathews Jr. possibly both off to the NFL after this season. Ohio State got Devin Sanchez last year and he’s the future of the room, the current freshman is joined by Aaron Scott, Bryce West, Jordyn Woods, and Miles Lockhart as the future of the room in Columbus.

Getting Timmons in for a visit during the season would be big for the Buckeyes in their effort to flip the Seminoles’ commitment. Ohio State has recruited the secondary well and that’ll need to continue with defensive coordinator Matt Patricia at the helm. Expect Tim Walton to be a key part in the Simmons recruitment and if the Buckeyes can flip him, it’ll be a nice recruiting win late in the cycle.
