CeeDee Lamb hit with NFL punishment he predicted two months ago before Cowboys season even started
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was fined by the NFL for Week 2 incident.
CeeDee Lamb is being for the first time of the 2025 NFL season. The Dallas Cowboys’ superstar wide receiver predicted the fine would happen back in late July at training camp in Oxnard, California.
Per a league announcement, Lamb and George Pickens were fined $14,491 each for a touchdown celebration the league deemed violent. It was a choreographed handshake that ended in both players mimicking guns with their hands. Pickens was also fined for removing his helmet.
Back in late July, Lamb and Pickens used the same celebration during practice, and the former joked he would pay Pickens’ fine.
“I’ll pay the fine,” Lamb said at camp. “But it shouldn’t be a fine, but Lord knows they’re going to give to us. Myself, personally, so we’ll see.”
Lamb was fined three times in 2024, including for use of obscene gesture and taunting.
The Cowboys had too many penalties in Week 2
The two fouls for which Pickens and Lamb were fined weren’t flagged during the game. But Lamb’ did have a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against him, which was one of 12 called against the Cowboys last Sunday. It was a poor performance compared to the team’s four-penalty mark of the NFL Kickoff game. In total, the Cowboys lost 106 yards due to fouls. Five of them happened on special teams, which hampered the Cowboys’ average starting yard, where they rank dead last in the league. Dak Prescott was responsible for a fourth-down delay of game in the first quarter.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer made an emphasis during training he wanted to cut down on penalties. Let’s see if he can improve the team’s ranking in total penalties at the end of the year.
Every Saturday, the NFL is announcing its league-wide fines and amounts for penalties committed the previous week.
“The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game,” reads the league’s Operations website.
