Philadelphia Eagles starting right tackle Lane Johnson was forced to exit Week 3’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams early due to a neck injury.

Johnson was apparently injured during the Eagles’ Tush Push touchdown in the first quarter, which gave them a 7-0 lead over LA.

He was in the medical tent for a while before the team announced that he was questionable to return. Johnson was then spotted sitting on the bench.

Backup swing tackle Matt Pryor replaced Johnson in the meantime.

Johnson’s absence was immediately noticeable, as quarterback Jalen Hurts was sacked twice shortly after he left the game.

Lane Johnson’s Injury Comes At the Worst Time

There is never a good time for an injury, but Johnson’s injury on the Tush Push play couldn’t be worse timing for Philly.

That’s because banning the Tush Push is back in the spotlight after Week 2’s viral video of the play slowed down, and the NFL is now calling for game officials to call the play “tight” moving forward.

“We want to officiate it tight,” Ramon George, NFL vice president of officiating training and development, said via the Washington Post. “We want to be black and white and be as tight as we can be when we get into this situation where teams are in the bunch position and we have to officiate them being onsides, movement early. … Prior to the snap, looks like we have movement by the right guard. We also have movement coming across from the defensive side. This is a very hard play to officiate. I get it.”

Teams voted on the Tush Push ban this past season, but after little to no evidence was found it to be harmful, the play stayed the way it was.

But with missed false start calls and Johnson’s injury, the ban could be back up for discussion.
