Micah Parsons shares valuable perspective after loss as he shifts focus to important individual challenge ahead
Edge defender had two offside penalties in Cleveland.
The Green Bay Packers hadn’t given up a single point to the Cleveland Browns until the middle of the fourth quarter. It’s hard to believe the team still lost the game, but the offense and special teams failed to take advantage of the situation. Ultimately, the defense gave up two field-goal drives, and allowed a touchdown on a short-field drive after Jordan Love’s interception, and the Packers lost 13-10.
Edge defender Micah Parsons, who suffered his first loss as a Packer, shared an important perspective about what this game looked like and how different things have to be moving forward.
“We’ll come in on Monday, fix our mistakes, walk through it, and come together as a team,” Parsons said. “It’s 18 games. We lost a rough one we should have won, but we’ll grow from it. This is character building, this is adversity. Penalties hurt us, and undefeated seasons are hard. Even the best Super Bowl champs make mistakes early. It’s that competitive, and it’s hard to win football games. When you win, it’s a celebration. When you lose, it sucks.”
Owning the mistakes
While the defense was clearly not the problem on Sunday, Micah Parsons showed his leadership style by owning what happened on the field. He had two offside penalties, which he classified as “unacceptable.”
“I felt good, but it wasn’t enough on my end,” Parsons added. “I have to play better. They didn’t bring me here to jump offside. I take more responsibility for this loss than I want anyone else to.”
Micah Parsons did not focus on what next week’s game means to him, but it will certainly be a special opportunity to get back on track. Green Bay faces the Dallas Cowboys on ‘Sunday Night Football’ in Week 4, and Parsons will have a revenge game against his former team—the one who didn’t want to give him a big contract extension after all.
While the Cowboys’ defense has had a tough time without Micah Parsons, the offense has been a top 10 unit in EPA/play—ninth, right after the Packers. So the game on Sunday will bring an intense challenge for Green Bay’s defense, and Parsons will be a big part of the plan for the team to recover and leave this tough loss behind.
