The Philadelphia Eagles made a roster move on Monday afternoon as they prepare to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

Per the team’s official X/Twitte account, the Eagles claimed wide receiver Xavier Gipson off of waivers and moved on from offensive lineman Kenyon Green.

Gipson, 24, was just cut by the New York Giants after being claimed from the New York Jets earlier this month. He didn’t play for the Giants but returned kicks and punts for the Jets in Week 1.

Originally undrafted out of Stephen F. Austin back in 2023, Gipson caught 27 passes for 268 yards in two seasons with the Jets but made his mark as a returner. He has averaged 28.7 yards per return since last season.

This signing comes after the Eagles had a tough time returning kickoffs against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. It’s also worth noting that rookie Darius Cooper hurt his shoulder during their 33-26 win over LA.

For Green, this is the third time the Eagles are waiving him after originally acquiring him from the Houston Texans this offseason in their C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade. A 2022 first-round pick, Green started 23 games for Texas but missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury. He had previously ranked among the lowest-graded players in the NFL.

Eagles Flying to Tampa Earlier than Usual

The Eagles have dropped three of their last four games against the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium, so this time, they’re heading down a day early in hopes of changing the outcome.

This is an attempt to help Eagles players adjust to the Florida heat, according to NBC Sports’ John Clark.

“I’m told the Eagles are changing their travel schedule to Tampa this year. They are going a day ahead of schedule, on Friday, to acclimate to the heat. They may have a workout in Tampa on Saturday. The Eagles have lost 3 of their last 4 games at the Bucs,” Clark wrote on X/Twitter.

So far, the weather looks too hot with a high of 86°F and a 45% chance of showers on Saturday afternoon.

Philly kicks off at 1:00 PM ET.
