Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns got back on track this past weekend with a 55-0 win over Sam Houston State.
Texas wasn’t at its best the previous week in a 27-10 win against UTEP.
Manning, who has been under the spotlight after some early season struggles, passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for two touchdowns, in the win against Sam Houston State.
Texas falls in ESPN’s power rankings despite dominant win
ESPN revealed their updated college football power rankings on Monday and Texas, somewhat surprisingly, fell three spots.
The Longhorns were No. 10 in ESPN’s power rankings last week. This week, they’re No. 13.
“A tuneup against 0-4 Sam Houston might have been what the doctor ordered for several scuffling Longhorns who had yet to find their stride this season,” noted ESPN’s Dave Wilson.
The reason why Texas fell in ESPN’s rankings is because Indiana, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech shot up thanks to big wins this past weekend –Indiana blew out Illinois, Ole Miss boat raced Tulane, and Texas Tech smacked Utah. All of those wins were more impressive on paper than the Longhorns’ win against lowly Sam Houston State.
Texas is off this weekend before traveling to Gainesville for a matchup against the Florida Gators on October 4 (which is the 22 year anniversary of Arch’s uncle, Eli, leading Ole Miss to a win in the Swamp). If the Longhorns score a big win in that game, they should quickly climb back up ESPN’s power rankings.
