Micah Parsons admits uncomfortable truth after a strange return to Dallas in a game that didn’t go as planned
Edge defender had a big sack, but defense underperformed.
Individually, it wasn’t a bad night for Micah Parsons. He was initially credited by PFF with eight pressures and had a decisive sack on Dak Prescott to save a touchdown, but the defense still allowed 40 points in a weird tie between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys in Parsons’ return to AT&T Stadium.
After the game, Parsons admitted that quarterback Jordan Love saved the Packers from a worse outcome with a great performance.
“I’m pissed off, I’m very disappointed, just overall how we performed,” Parsons said. “I even told Jordan to the side, thank you for having our back today. That’s why it’s so pivotal you play complementary football, because today Jordan played like the player he was, and we let him down, we didn’t live up to the expectations on defense.”
Outlier
In the first three weeks of the season, the defense had given up 41 combined points. That’s why it felt so underwhelming to give up 40 in a game, especially with the Cowboys missing two starting offensive linemen and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
“We got 13 games and we gotta figure out how we cannot put up 40 points again,” Parsons added. “To me, if we’re coming off a win and last week was a fluke, I just don’t think we’ve been putting our best film out. We just got to get better and fix the little things so that way when we get off this bye, we put a great performance at home.”
Now, the Packers get a bye week. After that, the team goes back to Lambeau Field to play against Jake Browning and a Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals. But after how the past two games shook out, counting on a win beforehand doesn’t seem like a great idea.
“Giving up 40 points, bro, I don’t care where we’re playing. That’s just unacceptable,” Parsons admitted. “For me and everyone, I’m not even pointing fingers, we gotta find a way to get off the field. We didn’t do a great job at that tonight. I take ownership, coach and I took ownership. Ownership is one thing, but doing something about it is another. We gotta, tomorrow, let’s all watch this film as a team. Let’s break it down. Let’s talk about it. I think that’s the tough conversation that we need to have all together.”
It’s certainly not what the Packers expected after being one of the best defenses in football over the first three weeks. But that’s life in the NFL, and there won’t be a full season without adversities.
