Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are set to travel down to Fayetteville on Saturday to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. This is the first matchup between these two schools, and it promises to be an extremely intriguing battle. For the Irish, this is a game to try and gain some momentum, and Arkansas will be aiming to do the same.

While the Razorbacks are a very flawed team, they have several players that Notre Dame needs to be prepared for. There are three key standouts that could especially cause some headaches from a pure talent perspective. Here is who the Irish need to prepare for most on Saturday.

QB Taylen Green

People can be a little too hyperbolic with quarterbacks at times, but this Arkansas offense really does go as Green goes. There is a lot on his plate, both as a passer and a runner, and there is no questioning who the most dynamic playmaker is for the Razorbacks. When Green is on, he’s a good player with dynamic dual threat ability.

When Green is off, however, he’s pretty horrific. The 6-6, 225-pound passer has good overall tools, but his processing and decision making can leave a lot to be desired at times. Notre Dame will hope to see the latter in this conversation, and it could be very beneficial to a struggling pass defense.

EDGE Quincy Rhodes Jr.

At 6-6 and 275 pounds, Rhodes has been one of the breakout stars in the SEC so far. He is an impressive blend of explosiveness, size, and power. Rhodes is going to be a difficult challenge for both Anthonie Knapp and Aamil Wagner, as well as the interior when he reduces down as a pass rusher. No. 97 could cause some headaches on Saturday.

LB Xavian Sorey

The leading tackler for the Razorbacks over the last two seasons, the defense is designed for Sorey to make plays. He’s not the biggest linebacker of all time, but he’s explosive and has impressive closing speed. His play has been a bit up and down this year, which explains the team’s inconsistency with stopping the run. If Sorey is locked in, he presents a huge challenge.
