The Bills Mafia is known for their wild antics during pregame, smashing tables and taking shots out of a bowling ball. However, it’s the hearts of the Bills Mafia that truly make a difference in the community.

The beloved fan base is much more than breaking tables, and the ‘Thursday Night Football’ win over the Miami Dolphins was further proof.

It wasn’t the fan base donating in waves to a local charity, but instead it was saving the life of another member of the Bills Mafia. ABC World News Tonight shared the story, highlighting the selfless acts of the fan base that were responsible for saving one of their own.

Ahead of the team’s first touchdown, Brian Dodge collapsed in the stands, suffering from a medical emergency. Within seconds, his daughter Candice, along with countless others in the section, began asking for help.

Danielle Johnson, a nurse, was able to jump into action and perform life-saving CPR for 10 minutes on him, ultimately stabilizing him until first responders arrived.

The moment drew instant comparisons to another unforgettable incident in Bills history. Fans across the NFL know about the incident surrounding safety Damar Hamlin, where he collapsed and nearly died on the football field in a contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Luckily, much like the incident with Hamlin, someone was there to save him. Hamlin has since become a national advocate for CPR and first aid training, shining a light on just how important it is to learn the life-saving techniques.

Brian is recovering in the hospital and expressed the same sentiment with his message to ABC World News Tonight.

“Everybody should go out, learn CPR,” Brian said. “Never know when you’re going to need it, and you never know who you’re going to save.”

Brian’s daughter has a heartfelt message for the Bills Mafia

His daughter, Candice, also had a message for the Bills Mafia, who were able to help save her father. Keeping it short and sweet, you could feel her emotions. What could’ve been a traumatic and horrifying experience resulted in gratitude and an abundance of love for the fan base.

“Every time I hug my dad, it’s got 70,000 hugs right there with it, thank you,” Candice said.

Finally, the real hero of the evening was nurse Johnson, once again taking the time to encourage everyone to get CPR trained in the event anything like this were to happen.

“It just goes to show how important CPR and first aid really is, because you never know when you’re going to use it,” Danielle said.

Just as the Hamlin story sparked a nationwide movement, Brian’s story is another reminder that anyone can be a hero with the right training. In Buffalo, heroes sit in every section of the stadium.
