The Seattle Seahawks showed a lot of promise under Mike Macdonald last year and it certainly looks like the team is ready to take the next step after winning its third-straight game on Thursday Night Football.

“The record is great but also, for me what stands out the most is the connection, the type of mindset, the play style we have as a team,” defensive lineman Leonard Williams told reporters after the Seahawks beat the Cardinals to move to 3-1 on the year.

“That stands out to me more than the record right now. So to me, the foundation is right. The growth of the team and the direction we’re heading is right and the record is obviously great to have. But, to me, that’s the big picture.”

The ‘Hawks will keep figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, but there’s one key trait that’s been developing since last year and it will definitely help Seattle make a deep playoff run in 2025 if it keeps up.

Seahawks are “road warriors” under Mike Macdonald

Dating back to last year, the Seahawks are 9-1 on the road and their last loss away from Lumen Field occurred nearly a full calendar year ago when they bungled their Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions in Motown. They’ve won eight straight road games since losing to the Lions.

“[We’re] road warriors,” said Williams. “… I think we have some type of mindset where [our] backs [are] against the wall. I think it contributes as well to when we were in camp the last two years with Mike, we always have a road, joint camp (practice). When we’re in those moments, it’s like we become so close together as a team and it’s because we’re in a new city, we don’t know anybody (and) we’re practicing against another team. I think that just shows up in the road games.”

What’s most impressive is the Seahawks have won their nine road contests by an average margin of 7.5 points per game. To go on the road and win by a touchdown per game is sizable proof that a team is doing something right in order to win in hostile environments.

And these days, teams are going on the road in the playoffs unless the No. 1 seed is earned in a respective conference. Meaning, the chances of staying at home during the most important time of the year are in no one’s favor. So, winning on the road is something a team has to figure out if it wants to make a postseason run.

Macdonald’s crew has figured that out in his short time as head coach. Now, it’s all about maintaining it and improving it as the team continues to gel. If that happens, then you better believe the Seahawks will be around for a while in 2025.
