The Washington Commanders are looking to get back-to-back wins with Marcus Mariota at quarterback against another former team this week, the Atlanta Falcons.

We saw multiple players announced as out for the matchup due to several injuries across the roster, with many depth players needing to step up this week. The Commanders announced the inactive players for Sunday, which include Brandon Coleman missing his second straight game, and Kain Medrano getting his first start.

Washington Commanders Inactive vs Atlanta Falcons

Several players are unable to go against the Falcons due to injuries, including franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels for a second week and wide receiver Terry McLaurin after leaving the game early last week. The Commanders are also without vital depth players in John Bates, Noah Brown, and Percy Butler. Running back Bill Croskey-Merritt was questionable heading into the game, and he’s officially active.

Mariota will have to lean on the youth in the wide receiver room with his WR1 and WR3 options out Sunday. Last week, Luke McCaffrey found the endzone for the first time in his career, and he needs to keep producing on offense. Ben Sinnott stepped in for Bates and helped get the run game going behind his physical blocking.

Speaking of blocking, Coleman is a healthy scratch for the second week in a row, and Chris Paul is getting the start at left guard once again after a flawless performance last week. The offensive line as a whole had its best overall performance last week, and the coaching staff is riding with the momentum.

Season debuts for the Commanders

When you have inactives, you have multiple players getting an opportunity, and many are making their season debuts today. Wide receiver Tay Martin was elevated from the practice squad with McLaurin and Brown out, and he brings experience to the offense even though he’s a newer addition to the roster this past offseason. Veteran corner Antonio Hamilton Jr. was another late addition this offseason, and he’s the other practice squad elevation this week with a banged-up secondary.

The Commanders want to see more from their rookies, and linebacker hybrid Kain Medrano, who can also play safety, is getting his first regular-season snaps today, and also fills in for Percy Butler’s missed special teams snaps. Darnell Savage was just signed on Monday, and he’s making his debut as a Commander. Will Harris is out for a while now, and the defense needs his experience, versatility, and upside.
