Colts kicker Spencer Shrader attempts a field goal
Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader (3) kicks a field goal during the second quarter against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.

During the first half of the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 5 matchup vs. the Las Vegas Raiders, they saw kicker Spencer Shrader leave the game with a knee injury. The Raiders attempted to block an extra point, and a defender landed on Shrader’s leg, which forced the Colts’ kicker to remain on the ground for a decent amount of time.

He was later ruled out after going to the locker room, and now the Colts most likely will need to make a move at kicker in the near future. So here are three options the team should consider.

Younghoe Koo, Giants (PS)

Younghoe Koo was a reliable kicker for the Atlanta Falcons for quite some time. He got off to a rough start in 2025 and ultimately lost his job. He is on the New York Giants practice squad, which makes him technically still available to sign to a team’s active roster.

If the Colts place Shrader on the IR, which appears likely, that would open up a spot for Koo. He has made 85.8% of his kicks in his career, but he has struggled from 50+. Still, he would be a reliable option for Indy for inside of 50 while Shrader is sidelined.

Michael Badgley, free agent

Next up is a former Colts kicker Michael Badgley. Badgley kicked 12 games for the Colts in 2021, and made 18 of his 21 attempts, with his longest coming from 49. He’s made 82.4% of his kicks in his career and made all four of his attempts in 2024 with the Detroit Lions.

He’s another kicker who hasn’t been great from long distance, but could be a high-floor option for the Colts to connect on field goals inside of 50 for the short term.

Rodrigo Blankenship, free agent

Last but not least is one more former Colts kicker, this time Rodrigo Blankenship. He began as a big fan favorite, known by the nickname “Specs” due to the glasses he wears on and off the field. He spent two years and some change with the Colts before being released in 2022. He connected on 83.3% of his field goals in Indy, but simply wasn’t reliable beyond 50 yards.

He had a bit of a career resurgence last season in the UFL. He had almost a perfect season, making 95.5% of his kicks, going 21 of 22. What was most impressive was that his longest of the year was a 56-yarder, and he made 5 of his 6 attempts on the year. He seems like a high-upside type of move the team could make at kicker and give him a chance to restart in the NFL in the same place he began, in Indianapolis.
