Xavier Worthy proves to be the missing ingredient from Kansas City Chiefs’ offense in Week 4 win over battered Baltimore Ravens

Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy’s return from injury sparked the offense and it’s only going to get better from here.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense kicked things up a notch in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens, and its missing ingredient was none other than 2024 first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy.

After missing the majority of the first three weeks of the 2025 NFL season with a shoulder dislocation and torn labrum suffered in Week 1, Worthy made his proper regular-season debut against the Ravens. The second-year pro was nothing short of spectacular, making a near-immediate impact in the first quarter against a Ravens defense that was reeling from injuries.

Worthy had a 35-yard run and a 37-yard reception, the longest run and reception by the team, respectively. He led the team in receiving and rushing yards, with well over 100 scrimmage yards. While he protected himself from contact the best he could, his speed helped open up the offense in a way unlike the first three weeks of the season.

There was more room to run with over 120 yards rushing from K.C. ball carriers, nine different receivers caught passes (most by Kansas City in a single game in 2025), and Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdowns to four different receivers in the 37-20 win. That marks the first time Mahomes has thrown for four touchdowns in a game since October of 2023 against the Los Angeles Chargers. It’s also the most points the offense has scored in a regular-season game since September of 2023.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy reaches career-high receiving marks in Week 4 vs. Ravens

  • With five receptions on eight targets for 83 yards, Worthy set a new regular-season high in receiving yards.
  • His previous high came in Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season against the Pittsburgh Steelers with eight receptions for 79 yards.
  • His 16.6 yards per reception was the second-highest regular-season mark of his career, trailing Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.

When Rashee Rice returns, the Chiefs’ offense could look completely different

Kansas City hasn’t yet fully realized what its offense is capable of because its top weapons have yet to be on the field together. Worthy is only one piece of the puzzle, but when Rashee Rice gets back, it could take things to an entirely different level.

Rice is back in the building and can participate in team meetings, but he’s still unable to practice and play until the practice week leading up to the Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s when his suspension will officially be lifted.

It’s not just about the returning players, though. It’s about the growth of those who had to step up while the other players were absent.

“I think for us at the end of the day, whenever we start getting these guys back like Xavier (Worthy) and Rashee (Rice), when he gets back, it’s going to make us even better because guys had to step up and they have,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said on Wednesday. “And they’ve stepped up and made plays and you’ve seen Hollywood (Brown), you’ve seen JuJu (Smith-Schuster) (and) you’ve seen Tyquan (Thornton) all step up into their roles and have even bigger roles within the offense. We’ll continue to get better and better as the season goes, but it’ll be an important week this week.”

The Chiefs face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 and the Detroit Lions in Week 6 before Rice returns and the full potential of the offense can truly be realized.
