The Detroit Lions’ secondary had a rough day on Sunday after both starting cornerbacks, D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold, went down with injuries against the Cleveland Browns. It’s a bummer because both were playing well, and both have been playing well this season.

After the game, Dan Campbell provided initial updates on both players, stating that it was challenging to see Reed play on Sunday against the Bengals. He noted that Arnold’s injury may not be as severe as Reed’s, but he cautioned that he couldn’t confirm Arnold’s availability for Sunday either. Well, now we have a big update on Reed.

NFL insider Ian Rappoport is reporting that Reed will not require surgery, but could be heading to injured reserve

You don’t want to see Reed head to the IR. Still, the fact that he won’t require surgery is a big deal because that means if he does head to the IR, he should be back after four weeks, and this isn’t a long-term or season-ending thing. We’ll see what the Lions do there. In the past, they have opted not to put guys on IR if they felt they could get them back sooner. They did this with David Montgomery at the end of last season.

Dan Campbell spoke with local Media on Monday and confirmed Rappoport’s report.

“He’s going to be down for a while, but the good news is, it’s not a season-ender,” Campbell said. “We will get him back, it looks like. So that’s the good news.”
