Former Cincinnati Bengals long snapper Cal Adomitis lost his roster spot to William Wagner last month, and he’s now finally found a new team.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Adomitis after placing their long snapper, Charley Hughlett, on the Reserve/Injured list.

Cal Adomitis lands with 4-0 Philadelphia amid Cincinnati’s struggles

Adomitis, a former undrafted free agent signing of the Bengals following the 2022 NFL Draft, was Cincy’s long snapper for three seasons. He first took over for an injured Clark Harris not long after the start of his rookie season in 2022. He ended up playing in 52 games (including three postseason contests).

The Bengals controlled Adomitis’ rights throughout his time with the team. They extended him to a one-year, $1.1 million deal in February, but they also brought in competition in May by way of a rookie in Wagner. Adomitis and Wagner split reps throughout the offseason, training camp, and preseason action, and the coaches went with the rookie over the fourth-year player. Cincinnati could’ve signed Adomitis to the practice squad, but didn’t leave a spot open for him.

That was a little over a month ago, and Adomitis had been a free agent waiting for another opportunity. He’s now got one with the Eagles, one only undefeated teams remaining in the entire league.

Philly placed Hughlett on I.R. Tuesday with an undisclosed injury, and the 11-year veteran will be forced to miss at least four games. That gives Adomitis a full month of game checks and playing time with one of the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Adomitis is also a Pennsylvania native, growing up in Pittsburgh and playing five years of college ball for Pitt.

The Bengals, despite their overall woes, have been fine without their long snapper of the previous three years. Wagner hasn’t had any issues snapping, and Evan McPherson is a perfect 4-4 with field goals and 7-7 with point after attempts. Punter Ryan Rehkow is averaging 52.7 yards per punt, which is good for second in the league.

Wagner is fitting in, and Adomitis has another chance to play. One of the tightest roster battles of Cincinnati’s offseason has worked out alright for both sides.
