The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a badly banged-up football team right now, and one of the most concerning injuries happened last Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. RB Bucky Irving suffered a foot injury from a hip-drop tackle in the Bucs’ 31-25 loss to the Eagles.

Irving’s injury wasn’t revealed until Todd Bowles spoke to the media on Monday. He said that Irving was included among a number of players undergoing MRIs following the game.

Having to get an MRI is never a good sign, and as it turns out, Irving’s injury could keep him off the field this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Irving was spotted by the local media at practice on Wednesday in a boot on his left foot and on crutches.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the specific injury Irving is dealing with is a foot sprain.

Bucky Irving 2025 snapshot

  • Leads team with 71 rushes for 237 yards (24 carries and 110 yards by White and Tucker combined)
  • Leads the team in catches with 19
  • Second on the team in receiving yards (193) and receiving touchdowns (2)

It’s obviously discouraging that Irving is in a boot and on crutches just four days ahead of when he’s supposed to be trotting out of the tunnel at Lumen Field in Seattle. While we’ll see how the week goes, it’s not a good sign for his availability on Sunday.

Fortunately for Tampa Bay, it arguably has the best pair of reserve options in the NFL in Rachaad White and Sean Tucker. White is adept in the passing game, as we saw in 2023 when he totaled over 1500 scrimmage yards with 70 catches and 549 receiving yards. Tucker also earned NFC Player of the Week honors last season with a monster showing of 192 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in Tampa Bay’s 51-27 win over the New Orleans Saints.

But Irving adds another gear to the offense both on the ground and in the passing game, as we saw against the Eagles last week with his explosive 72-yard touchdown. His loss would be a blow to the offense regardless of the options behind him.

We’ll find out as the week progresses whether the Bucs will indeed be without him on Sunday.
