One of the biggest storylines from Week 4 was the spat between Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

In the lead up to their game this past Sunday, Saleh told the media that Coen has a legal sign-stealing system. The Jaguars went on to beat the 49ers 26-21, and immediately afterwards Coen and Saleh shared some choice words with each other.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid understands how to prevent sign-stealing

Reid has seen it all as the longest tenured coach in the NFL. While speaking to the media on Thursday, he acknowledged that if teams are revealing their signals in an obvious way, opponents will naturally catch on and take advantage.

“Listen, that goes on,” Reid said of sign-stealing. “If you’re going to put a sign out there, guys are going to look at it and try to sneak it from you. The headsets have kind of taken away a little bit of that. That’s what it is. It’s all part of it.”

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes keeps opponents guessing with signals

Mahomes also spoke on Thursday, stating that the Chiefs’ offense constantly change their signals (or signs) up.

“We switch signals like every single week,” Mahomes said. “We switch signals every single week knowing that the game is on TV, and teams watch that. We try to make sure that we’re interchanging that stuff so they can’t get a beat on what we’re trying to do.”

Reading between the lines a bit, neither Mahomes or Reid feel like the issue is a very big deal. Saleh even admitted that if Coen does steal signs, it’s in a legal way as the opponent is clearly being obvious with their signaling.

The Chiefs will surely be extra prepared just in case as they take on the Jaguars on Monday Night Football in Week 5. During the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis and Jason Kelce go on a hilarious rant about the situation.
