On Monday, the day after former Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Germaine Pratt did not travel with the team to play the Indianapolis Colts, despite being healthy, the team released him.

“[The Raiders] decided to go with the other guys,” Carroll told reporters after the game when asked why Pratt didn’t travel.

This is obviously something they are keeping under wraps, and maybe for a good reason. But this isn’t something that has been boiling over the last few weeks. The first time the media or anyone else heard about this was just before the game, when everyone found out he hadn’t traveled with the team, and that it wasn’t due to an injury.

Now, everyone is stuck asking why, and what happened?

Raiders will miss Pratt’s coverage game

Pratt was the Raiders’ best coverage linebacker, which isn’t saying much at all. However, he was pretty good, all things considered. After his last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, many thought he just wasn’t good anymore, but that’s not the case. It’s evident he was just on a bad defense.

With the Raiders, he was pretty decent – not amazing, but certainly not bad.

With a 64.3 overall coverage grade, per Pro Football Focus, Pratt played 116 pass coverage snaps. According to Sports Info Solutions, Pratt has allowed five completions on nine targets for 59 yards while in coverage, but no touchdowns allowed, and he also has one dropped interception.

On Monday, after the news was announced, Pratt tweeted out this picture:

The Raiders will now be in search of another linebacker who can cover well. Jamal Adams certainly won’t start covering well, and Devin White and Elandon Roberts are run stoppers.

Patrick Graham and Carroll could likely give Tommy Eichenberg and Cody Lindenberg a shot.
