Self-inflicted wounds hurt the Buffalo Bills and ultimately cost them the game in the Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots. A host of penalties, three fumbles, and it was just a day at the office where you could feel the Bills weren’t firing on all cylinders. Quarterback Josh Allen opened up after the game, sharing the same sentiment that Buffalo played poor football all around.

To add insult to injury, the Patriots organization took a parting shot at the Bills and Josh Allen after the victory in Week 5. The Patriots’ social media team used a photo of Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs, the infamous side-eye photo, immediately after the game.

It stings in the hearts of Bills Mafia in more ways than one. First, Diggs’ return to Buffalo was exceptional as he led the team in receiving yards, making his reunion a bitter pill for the fan base to swallow. And second, the photo taken between Diggs and Allen was after another loss by the Bills in a game where they took on their former receiver in Diggs.

Diggs had a field day against Buffalo

Diggs began the pregame festivities by staring down his former team during warmups. It was clear that the game was going to be personal for him. Diggs finished his homecoming game with 10 receptions for 146 yards, securing a few key receptions throughout the game that allowed the Patriots to walk away with a victory.

The veteran receiver had an ugly exit from Buffalo, but kept it professional with his postgame comments. From views inside the locker room and comments from Diggs, you would think that the team pulled off an epic playoff victory.

While Allen wasn’t able to put on his Superman cape and lead the team to victory, he put on a heck of a performance even with all the miscues. Allen finished his day going 22-for-31 with 253 yards and two touchdowns while adding nine carries for 53 yards on the ground.

Even with three turnovers, Buffalo out-gained New England, had more time of possession, converted on more third downs, and had more first downs than the Patriots. The three turnovers and the 11 penalties for 90 yards were just too much to overcome, but Buffalo still had a chance late into the contest. With the second matchup between the two teams taking place in New England, the Bills will surely remember this loss and come ready to show how the Week 5 matchup was a fluke.

Allen and the Bills know they let one slip away. But if history’s any indication, Buffalo’s never stayed down for long.
