The Ohio State Buckeyes are the No. 1 team in the country with a 5-0 record to start the season. Ohio State has been dominant on defense and the offense has looked pretty good. Entering the season, the big question was around Julian Sayin and how good he would be for the Buckeyes. Sayin has been everything they hoped he would be in Columbus and he’s doing a solid job of getting his playmakers the rock

Jeremiah Smith is the focal point of the Ohio State offense and even when he isn’t getting the ball, he’s making a big impact. The star sophomore had 67 yards and two touchdowns against Minnesota in Week 6 but he wasn’t the star of the passing game last Saturday night. It was Carnell Tate and he had a career day with nine receptions for 183 receiving yards.

Jeremiah Smith’s approach on the field is perfect for the Buckeyes

“Everybody that we’ve played against just wants to take me out of the game,” Smith stated earlier this week. “But last week showed that we’ve got another dominant receiver on the other side of the field, so you can’t just worry about me now, you got to worry about Carnell Tate, you got to worry about Brandon Inniss, you got to worry about Max Klare, you got to worry about the tight ends.”

Whatever you want to do, take me out,  Carnell Tate is gonna kill you, the run game is gonna kill you, the tight ends are gonna kill you.”

Emeka Egbuka was Ohio State’s last first-rounder and it looks like Tate is well on his way to being the next. The Buckeyes have playmakers all around Smith, so when teams key in on stopping the star wideout, Ohio State looks to beat the opponent elsewhere.  Smith has 35 catches, 463 yards, and six touchdowns in five games. Tate is right there with 435 receiving yards and four touchdowns following his big game against Minnesota.

Purdue transfer TE Max Klare is third in receiving with 11 catches for 137 yards. Ohio State really needs to get junior WR Brandon Inniss going, who has nine catches for 73 yards in five games as the slot wideout for the Buckeyes. Ohio State has typically had a very productive slot position but that hasn’t been the case yet this season. Klare has been becoming more involved recently with the Buckeyes and the more that steps up around Smith is better for the offense.

Sayin is completing 80 percent of his passes for 1,313 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just three interceptions so far. Smith’s attitude of Ohio State having other players to step up not only shows his unselfishness, but the talent that Ohio State has in what is a dangerous offense. The Buckeyes are on the road the next two weekends against Illinois and Indiana. Two games that they’ll surely need their offense to help take the away crowd out of it.
