As you’ve heard 100 times already this week, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch got in some trouble on Sunday night after the Lions’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when he punched Chiefs receiver Juju Smith-Schuster after what Branch described, and what video showed, as a dirty hit from Schuster at the end of the game.

On Monday, the league suspended Branch for one game without pay, and that one game is the Lions’ Monday night matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That same day, it was announced that Branch would appeal the suspension. We now know the results of that appeal.

Brian Branch’s suspension has been upheld

Well, we all kind of expected this to be the result, right? At the end of the day, the 13 fines that he already incurred were probably just too much to overcome. There’s been a shadow cast on him at this point, and he might not ever get over it.

With the suspension going through, Branch will be out against the Bucs and can return after the bye week. He’s also losing a game check, which will cost him $76,625. This is no joke of a punishment. At least he tried to appeal it.
