There’s an obvious right answer to the Jets’ trade deadline dilemma — and Aaron Glenn isn’t going to like it very much

Aaron Glenn wants Breece Hall in town…but that shouldn’t matter.

The New York Jets knew what this season was going to be about from the very beginning. New York required an extensive reboot of their football operation from top to bottom. These things take time. And as the Jets try to get themselves aligned with Aaron Glenn‘s vision for the football team, time is the one thing some players don’t have.

That includes running back Breece Hall, who is in a contract year with the team after three moderately successful seasons with the team after being picked 36th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. A rebuilding franchise feels quite unlikely to prioritize a modestly high second contract for a running back — which means the Jets and Hall could be in their swan song together.

And they should absolutely still prioritize getting something for him, no matter what Aaron Glenn says.

New York Jets must find an opportunity to offload Breece Hall by the trade deadline

“They’re rumors. Still feel the same way.”

— Aaron Glenn on the Breece Hall trade rumors

Aaron Glenn put on a brave face when asked about the trade rumors for Hall on Wednesday. Glenn firmly states he wants Hall in the building. On one hand, I get it. The idea of trading one of your physically talented players is a concession that the season isn’t going to be competitive. No coach wants that kind of white flag waving, especially in the first half of the first season with the team.

But this decision should not be Glenn’s to make. It’s his draw to coach the team and it is general manager Darren Mougey’s job to make the big picture decisions for what is best for the roster and the assets the team has to work with.

Breece Hall’s New York Jets career to date

  • Drafted 36th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft
  • 600 career carries for 2,743 rushing yards
  • 22 career touchdowns from scrimmage
  • Through Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season

We know several teams are in the market for a running back ahead of the deadline. It’s been rumored that multiple AFC West teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, are interested. Hall being in the final year of his rookie contract means a few things — he’s cheap and he’s going to likely want to cash in.

It’s hard to envision New York’s reset aligning with those priorities. The team should, unquestionably, take advantage of the higher than average market interest in the running back position and make a move.

Even if it bothers Aaron Glenn in the process.
