Notre Dame football looks ready to cash in on major recruiting victory following an unforeseen series of events recently
A new commitment for Notre Dame football could be right on the horizon.
Very early on in the 2027 recruiting class, Raleigh (N.C.) Rolesville running back Amir Brown was a key target for the Notre Dame program. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish staff held Brown in a very high regard, which was a bummer when he chose to commit to UNC back in August. That was a very talented runner now off the board.
Things changed earlier this week, and it felt like perfect timing for Notre Dame. Brown is scheduled to make a trip to South Bend this weekend for their matchup against the USC Trojans, and now the North Carolina native is back on the market after decommitting from the Tar Heels. It feels like this may have been a calculated move, and not a coincidence for the Irish.
On Thursday, Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman logged an expert prediction for Brown to land with Notre Dame. This is clearly a situation where Ja’Juan Seider and the staff continued to push, and it appears that this could be trending to the Irish very quickly.
Amir Brown’s recruiting profile
Brown is considered to be a four-star recruit by the majority of the major recruiting platforms, the lone exception being 247Sports, which has him pegged as a three-star player currently. The Rivals Industry ranking rates Brown as the No. 271 overall player, the No. 20 running back, and the No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class.
The 5-10.5, 205-pound runner had garnered interest from a long list of programs so far in his process, even while he was still committed to the Tar Heels. Some of the more impressive offers Brown has earned include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, Louisville, UNC, Indiana, Maryland, Boston College, Baylor, UCLA, Virginia, SMU, Stanford, Duke, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Purdue, and UCF among others.
As a sophomore in 2024, Brown made a ton of plays for the very talented Rolesville squad. In 14 games, he rushed for 612 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Brown also hauled in 15 receptions for 269 yards and two more scores.
In seven games so far this year, Brown has been even better. He has managed to rush for 802 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 7.9 yards per carry. The North Carolina native has also made six receptions for 49 yards and another score. Along with fellow Irish wide receiver target Anthony Roberts, Rolesville has a couple of the more dynamic offensive weapons in their area.
Things are moving quickly between Notre Dame and Brown, and in a very good way. If things go well this weekend, things could move even faster.
