Jalen Ramsey shoots down Joey Porter Jr.’s officiating excuse after telling it like it is regarding the Steelers’ secondary

Officiating was the least of the Steelers’ concerns on Thursday.

If there is one portion of NFL Football that is widely overblown, it’s officiating. Never forget one of the most egregious calls between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs still gave the Saints a chance to win that game.

Well on Thursday night, the stakes weren’t quite as big, but the stage still felt important. And what happened? Well, Joe Flacco and Ja’Marr Chase torched the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense as a whole, but especially the secondary.

One member of that unit, Joey Porter Jr., wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the calls that went against him, yet Jalen Ramsey wouldn’t let him get away with any excuses.

It should be noted that Joey Porter Jr, has dealt with defensive pass interference issues dating back to his time at Penn State. A physical corner by nature with lanky arms, Porter tends to get a little grabby at the top of routes, and NFL officials have started cracking down, which Porter Jr. is not a fan of.

“We’ve got the guys to do it, they’ve just got to let us play,” Porter Jr. told Brooke Pryor of ESPN on X-Twitter after the game. “I wasn’t a big fan of the calls today with the officiating, but it is what it is. It’s football.”

Now, Porter Jr. did take accountability and say that the game was all the defense’s fault, but the damage had already been done, and by the time word reached Jalen Ramsey, he didn’t want to hear anything about officials.

“Don’t worry about that. “We have to play better, starting with myself, when the opportunity presents itself. It’s part of the game,” said Ramsey via Mike DeFabo on X-Twitter after the game. “When you have receivers that are superstars in the league, you know that they get away with shit like that. It is what it is.”

I’m sure it can be frustrating for a player like Porter Jr., but the scouting report on him is out, the same way it is for the Bengals WRs. I’m not saying officials don’t miss calls or that some didn’t impact the game.

But the officials didn’t throw for 350 yards like Flacco, go for 160 receiving yards like Chase or over 140 on the ground like the Cincinnati Bengals.

That was all on the Steelers’ defense. They will have to answer for that.
