The Ohio State Buckeyes now head into an off week that will give them a chance to reset before their final five regular-season games of the year.

Ohio State’s 34-0 road win over the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday marked their second shutout of the season. The game could have been much worse for Wisconsin, but the Buckeyes aren’t a team that tends to run up the score under Ryan Day. Most Ohio State fans were probably fine with that result, especially given that a former Buckeye coach was on the opposing sideline.

Luke Fickell calls it like he sees it when it comes to the Buckeyes

“I’ll be honest with you, I think that’s collectively as good a team as I’ve prepared for or played against in all phases,” Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell said after the game. “Just across the board—the way they play offensively and defensively, in special teams as well—on top of the talent that they have. To see some of those guys compete and not bat an eye, I think that’s what we’re going to have to continue to build around.”

Fickell praised the effort of his 2-5 Badgers, saying they competed hard against what he believes is one of the best teams he’s ever faced. Wisconsin is in the midst of a down season, and it’s hard to see many more wins coming for the Badgers.

Fickell’s time in Madison looks to be nearing its end in just his third season. He made the jump from Cincinnati to Wisconsin in 2023, but things simply haven’t gone well for anyone involved.

That’s still big praise from Fickell regarding the Buckeyes. He remains one of the best defensive minds in college football and was part of Ohio State’s coaching staff from 2002 to 2016 for a reason. The Buckeyes are allowing just 5.9 points per game this season, and a struggling Wisconsin offense was a particularly bad matchup for Fickell’s squad. Ohio State racked up nearly 500 yards of offense, and the game felt over once the Buckeyes put a couple of scores on the board.

Ohio State will next host Penn State on Nov. 1 before traveling to Purdue, then hosting UCLA and Rutgers. The Buckeyes will close the regular season at Michigan in the game everyone has circled. After four straight losses to the Wolverines, Ohio State has to go out and prove it this year.
