Kalen DeBoer has redefined his tenure at Alabama thus far as the 2025 season continues to bring great results against top opponents. Since losing Week 1 to Florida State, Alabama has been nearly perfect. They’ve blown out Vanderbilt and Tennessee and eeked out close games against Georgia and Missouri.

This is a tougher team that is winning in the margins that cost them three times in 2024. DeBoer’s Crimson Tide dismantled the Volunteers on Saturday, delivering a decisive 37-20 win. It wouldn’t be surprising for them to jump to as high as No. 2 in the latest polls when they’re released.

During the Third Saturday in October battle, DeBoer again was wearing something that caught the eye of fans and media alike. Here’s what he said about his new good luck charm when asked after the game.

Alabama has won four straight games against ranked opponents and is now 15-2 overall in ranked games. DeBoer’s secret? It might just be the black hoodie he continues to wear this year.

Kalen DeBoer notes that the black hoodie “isn’t new,” but he is going to “ride the momentum…I told the guys not to get any ashes on it.”

DeBoer has worn the black light hoodie much more often since the Florida State loss, starting in Week 2 against UL Monroe. At this point, if that’s what it takes for the Crimson Tide to be a powerhouse, then so be it.

Alabama was outgained in first downs (27-23) and total yards (410-373), but won the time of possession battle by two minutes and had three fewer penalties for seven fewer yards. It was an ugly game against Tennessee in terms of efficiency, but the Crimson Tide defense was stout and forced the Volunteers to grind out as much as they possibly could.

It worked, and Alabama now faces South Carolina before LSU.
