The Cincinnati Bengals will begin a week of practice without knowing which New York Jets quarterback they’ll face on Sunday. Head coach Aaron Glenn declined to answer Wednesday who will start between Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor.

“I wouldn’t want to give them a competitive advantage when I have that opportunity,” Glenn told reporters. “But we’ll have a quarterback.”

Bengals remain in the dark about Jets’ QB decision

Things are not great for the Bengals’ upcoming opponent. New York enters the week 0-7 on the season, and Glenn benched Fields this past Sunday during a close loss to the Carolina Panthers. Taylor came in for Field, but threw two interceptions and the offense never found the end zone.

Taylor is also considered day-to-day with a knee injury, according to Glenn. That may factor in to a decision not being public just yet.

Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the club in the offseason, has been the starter for six games this season. Taylor started for him in Week 3 due to a concussion. Fields has thrown for 845 yards and four touchdowns in six starts, and while he’s yet to throw an INT this year, the Jets’ offense has been inconsistent at best with him under center.

Taylor threw for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and an INT in his one start in Week 3, but the Jets fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-29.

Keeping the Bengals in the dark is Glenn’s intention, and for Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor, the only thing to do is watch the tape regardless.

“You look at their offense and see how their offense functions,” Taylor told reporters Monday. “See if things change with one or the other. If not, then you just get ready for their offense.”

The Bengals could get some insight based on the Jets’ injury reports this week since Taylor is dealing with an injury. Other than that, they may not know who’s going to go up against their defense until Sunday rolls around.
