Kalen DeBoer sends a message to the rest of college football after admitting Alabama players have yet to reach their potential
Kalen DeBoer knows that Alabama has yet to reach its ceiling.
No team in the country is hotter than the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s one thing to win four straight games. It’s entirely different to win four straight games against top 20 opponents, all in the SEC, two of which are the fifth ranked Georgia Bulldogs and 10th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores.
So it’s good to see that the Tide have seemingly turned the page after the team’s disastrous Week 1 loss against an FSU, a team holding meetings left and right to discuss whether or not they want to fire Mike Norvell.
But Kalen DeBoer knows that Alabama still has another gear to reach, and he’s letting everyone know about it.
Kalen DeBoer reveals that Alabama has yet to reach its full potential
“I challenged the guys, and they believe it, that the world has not seen Bama’s best yet,” DeBoer told the media on Monday via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube channel. “That’s really what we’re striving to do. … The preparation and just the investment of time, the investment of your energy throughout the week leading to a confidence and excitement to go out there and make plays and be our best.”
“When you keep it really as simple as possible on that, have great preparation, everyone caring about what we’re trying to accomplish, you have that edge. We got to stack another week of work, one day at a time and be ready to go on Saturday.”
To prove DeBoer’s point, let’s just break down the game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Sure, a 17 point win against the No. 11 ranked team in the country at the time, it’s an impressive victory that rightfully catapulted the Tide into the top five of the AP Poll.
Ty Simpson was incredible and the defense adjusted well to one of the nation’s most dynamic passing offenses. But they also let Tennessee, who had an identity crisis at RB, go for over 140 rushing yards. From an offensive standpoint, Alabama’s leading rusher was WR Germie Bernard.
It’s great to have a potential Heisman Trophy winner at QB and all the weapons in the passing game, but as Alabama gets deeper into its season, the rules of football will always win out. Running the football and stopping the run.
If Alabama can prove to excel in both areas, they will reach the potential Kalen DeBoer is trying to let everyone who will listen hear about.
