The latest in the Ravens’ ping-pong table saga perfectly captures the chaos of a 1-5 start — and why Baltimore desperately needs a win

We’re talking about ping pong tables?

The Baltimore Ravens are back and ramping up for a Week 8 date with the Chicago Bears. With extra time and preparation for Chicago, the hope is that Sunday’s game can serve as a jump-start to the stretch run for the Ravens. With quarterback Lamar Jackson back at practice on Wednesday as well, it seems as though there’s reason for optimism with the Ravens.

But amid the road to recovery from a 1-5 start, the ridiculousness of the Ravens’ early season is still peeking through. The team’s “ping-pong table saga” from the Baltimore Sun is a perfect embodiment of the craziness that comes with losing games — territory that is very much foreign to Baltimore.

Ping-pong table saga underscores Ravens’ desperate need for a win

The Ravens coaches removed the video games and the ping-pong tables over the bye. Then, with an update today, it was important for the world to know that the player leadership made the decision. This “wasn’t a punishment” per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Does it really matter? Tomato, tom-ah-toe.

The Ravens first two months of the season were a disaster. There were injuries, self-inflicted miscues, questionable coaching decisions, and some tough luck. That’s typically the case when you start 1-5. But where this Ravens season goes from here will tell the story. With a loss to the Bears, Baltimore’s aspirations to win the AFC North would require a minor miracle to come to life. And with a loss, I can guarantee you this ping-pong thing won’t be the only ridiculous story to seep out into the public about this Ravens team.

But with a win, Baltimore could quickly set their eyes towards the disaster the currently is the Miami Dolphins on a short week before potentially having extra preparation to play a Minnesota team that currently doesn’t know what they’ve got in their quarterback situation. It could turn quickly, one way or the other. But a few wins on the field would yield another bonus win off it — no more obsession and debate around ping ping tables and video games.
