The New York Giants’ Week 7 loss to the Denver Broncos was incredibly frustrating for everyone.

A blown 19-point lead and 33 points in the fourth quarter aren’t supposed to happen. And after the loss, many Giants fans were stunned to see defensive leader Brian Burns exploding after the game while walking into the locker room.

There’s been speculation on whether Burns and other defensive leaders actually buy into the messaging and playcalling of defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

Today, when speaking with the media after practice, Burns cut through the noise to clarify what happened and shut down everyone’s rampant speculation.

“People are going to take whatever you say, however they want to,” Daniels told the meida, “But just coming off the, coming off the field, right off the field, I got a lot of emotions going on. What I was referring to is the fact that we called a call specifically to take away that play.”

Burns was caught on camera shouting over what sounded like criticism of the decision to drop eight players into coverage by Bowen. The call created an open lane up the middle of the field, leading to a completion that set up the game-winning field goal. The speculation that his reaction was related to the play call made sense because the entire Giants fan base and New York media shared the same sentiment.

However, today Burns went into great detail about what really went down after he tweeted publicly that everyone took the video out of context.

“It was kind of like a disbelief. Like, bro, there’s no way that we dropped eight and we still couldn’t stop that ball from getting completed,” Burns told reporters, “That’s more so what my frustration lied. It wasn’t anything towards the call. And that’s what I tried to clear up. But people are going to feel what they want to feel.”

While Burns’ explanation makes sense, Giants fans aren’t entirely convinced that all is well with the defense, given their extreme inconsistency. Burns is a great leader, so he’s going to do whatever he can to support the team and help boost morale.

Burns was also asked if the team is backing Bowen after the defensive meltdown.

“We are. But everybody is entitled to their own opinion,” Burns stated, “However you view it, whatever your perspective is, I respect your perspective. You can have that. But we are all bought in. And, like, that call was perfect for that situation just because there were 30 seconds left, no timeouts, you know, catch-tackle, game over. But that ball was never supposed to be completed.”

Additionally, Burns was asked how he felt about his defensive coordinator receiving a lot of criticism lately for the Giants’ issues.

“There’s not really anything I can think about,” said Burns, “It’s just what it is what it is. At the end of the day, we got something that we got to have our attention on, and that’s the Eagles. So, hopefully Shane isn’t too caught up in all that stuff that people are saying.”

Generally, it’s hard to believe with the Giants’ defense struggling as much as it is that everything is all sunshine and rainbows. I find it hard to believe that there isn’t some division and doubt in the locker room, considering teams have collapsed over less. But like Burns said, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
