NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defends Bad Bunny as Super Bowl LX halftime performer amid backlash
He made his opinion clear
The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, as fans wait patiently for the NFL to first announce who will be performing and then for that musician to take the stage.
Last month, the league announced that it will be Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny who will perform at Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl LX in February.
However, since the announcement was made, the NFL has received a lot of backlash. So, is NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell thinking about making a change?
“It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell told reporters at his news conference following the annual Fall League Meeting. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”
“We’re confident it’s going to be a great show,” Goodell added. “He understands the platform that he’s on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”
And he knows that there are many fans who are excited to see him perform.
“He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world,” Goodell said. “That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value.”
Bad Bunny released a statement following the news he will be performing at Super Bowl LX
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” Bad Bunny said in a statement (via Variety). “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
