NFL insider confirms suspicions about Dallas Cowboys trade rumors, and it says a lot about their plans
The Cowboys are going shopping ahead of the NFL trade deadline in Nov. 4.
The Dallas Cowboys are going shopping ahead of the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline. The question is: Who’s selling?
According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Cowboys called the Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals in attempts to trade for star edge rushers Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson, respectively. Both AFC teams rebuffed the attempts.
“They are calling around for help on defense,” Glazer said on live TV Sunday morning ahead of the Cowboys’ Week 8 matchup versus the Denver Broncos.
Latest report confirms suspicion about Cowboys trade rumors
Glazer’s report confirms speculation that the Cowboys are actively seeking defensive help ahead of the deadline. Earlier in the week, insider Trey Wingo reported Dallas had made inquiries to the Raiders about Crosby’s availability. Conflicting reports emerged shortly thereafter. But now, Glazer’s report indicates not only did they make the call to Las Vegas, but to Cincinnati, as well.
Hendrickson and Crosby were considered the top two trade candidates at edge rusher in terms of player caliber. It appears neither will be moved, however.
Report reveals key aspect of Cowboys’ trade interest
Though the Cowboys failed to make a deal, we learned two things, thanks to Glazer’s report. Firstly, Dallas appears interested in making a high-profile move, an intention that could be reinforced with a win in Denver on Sunday. That isn’t much of a surprise, considering the level the offense is playing at.
Secondly, it sure seems like the Cowboys’ focus is on trading for a defensive end. The defensive struggles have ranged from the defensive line to the linebackers and the secondary. When I put together my list of seven trade candidates for the Cowboys, I did mostly linebackers, some defensive ends, and one safety.
With star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown expected to return in Week 11, I wonder if the Cowboys are content with their LB room and instead are focusing on edge rushing help only. We will see within the next nine days. For now, it’s all about beating the Broncos as road underdogs to earn a winning record for the first time this season.
