Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar had a huge game against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday night in Lexington.

Aguilar passed for 396 yards and three touchdowns in the Vols’ 56-24 win over the Wildcats.

Some fans expected the matchup against Kentucky to be a little more challenging for Tennessee’s offense based on the way the Wildcats played the Texas Longhorns in Lexington last weekend.

Kentucky didn’t get the win against Texas — the Longhorns won 16-13 in overtime — but the Wildcats managed to keep quarterback Arch Manning in check.

Arch, who was viewed by many before the season as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025, passed for 132 yards and no touchdowns in the narrow win against Kentucky.

Maybe it should’ve been Aguilar on those preseason Heisman lists…

Joey Aguilar is putting up better numbers than Arch Manning this season

Aguilar, in general, is having a better statistical season than Manning.

Through eight games this season, Aguilar has passes for 2,344 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also has two rushing touchdowns.

Manning, meanwhile, has passed for 1,795 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions to go along with six rushing touchdowns.

Aguilar, despite his strong season so far, isn’t receiving any Heisman hype. But if he continues to perform at this level over Tennessee’s final four games of the regular season — and if the Vols make the College Football Playoff — it may be impossible to keep Aguilar off the stage at the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York in December.
