Ever since Pete Carroll was hired as the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, everyone knew that former Seattle Seahawks players would likely find their way to the Raiders. The one whose name came up the most is undoubtedly wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who played for the Tennessee Titans earlier in the year.

After asking for and being granted his release, the Raiders signed Lockett in a move that could have been seen from a mile away. Now, the Raiders have one more veteran presence in that room, along with a guy who may still have a little bit of juice left.

Lockett isn’t elite, like he once was, but who’s to say that he can’t make some big-time catches here and there throughout the season? Well, I guess Geno Smith would have to get him the ball first, and not throw it to the other team. But Lockett will be a good and likely cheap addition.

Pete Carroll has a great relationship with Lockett

“He’s an amazing championship player,” Carroll said about Lockett a few seasons ago. “All that he brings, all of the background experience, all of it, he’s got a way about him that has just separated him. And, you can say that it doesn’t always get recognized on a larger scale, but we’ve seen this guy be an incredible competitor.

“His ability, durability, everything. Such a good guy. When the play opportunity arises, he almost always finds a way to make the play, and he makes it look easy. He has this grace about him. So, he’s really one of the all-timers.”

Safe to say the two have a special connection. And we see this with so many of his players from his time in Seattle. There are a handful of them on the Raiders now, like Smith at QB and Jamal Adams at linebacker.

The Raiders needed another body in that room, another guy to play a depth piece. We all know the Raiders are going through it in the injury department, with guys like Brock Bowers still out and Jakobi Meyers missing the last game, too. And that’s not even mentioning the defensive side of the ball..

Tyler Lockett’s career stats

  • 2015 (SEA): 16 games, 51 receptions, 664 yards, six touchdowns
  • 2016 (SEA): 15 games, 41 receptions, 597 yards, one touchdown
  • 2017 (SEA): 16 games, 45 receptions, 555 yards, two touchdowns
  • 2018 (SEA): 16 games, 57 receptions, 965 yards, 10 touchdowns
  • 2019 (SEA): 16 games, 82 receptions, 1057 yards, eight touchdowns
  • 2020 (SEA): 16 games, 100 receptions, 1054 yards, 10 touchdowns
  • 2021 (SEA): 16 games, 73 receptions, 1175 yards, eight touchdowns
  • 2022 (SEA): 16 games, 84 receptions, 1033 yards, nine touchdowns
  • 2023 (SEA): 17 games, 79 receptions, 894 yards, five touchdowns
  • 2024 (SEA): 17 games, 49 receptions, 600 yards, two touchdowns
  • 2025 (TEN, partial season): seven games, 10 receptions, 70 yards,

So, getting Lockett, who always seems to be open, is huge for the Raiders. And, he’s been around the block, been an elite receiver in this league before, and won a lot. So, having him to help mentor the young guys like Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech is great.
