The Alabama Crimson Tide has quickly rebounded from a tough 2024 season to reach an enviable position as November arrives. Ranked as the No. 4 team in our A to Z Sports Top 25 list, Alabama is winning everything it needs to on the field. A big reason why is that quarterback Ty Simpson and head coach Kalen DeBoer are on the same page and speaking the same language.

Off the field, Alabama can take pride in seeing LSU struggle after firing head coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers loom after this week’s bye, and Alabama should enter that matchup as a clear favorite. Having unlikely heroes like Germie Bernard stepping up when it matters most only helps the Tide’s argument for being one of the nation’s elite.

The Tide is rolling, even after a close win against South Carolina, and Simpson has his goals high. See what his two priorities are as NFL rumors swirl and the College Football Playoff inches closer.

Ty Simpson wants a Heisman Trophy and Alabama National Championship Trophy

Simpson was asked about his Heisman Trophy odds, which sit at +400 and are tied for the second-best in the country. The junior passer leads the SEC in completions (177), touchdown passes (20), and adjusted yards per attempt (9.73), and has real momentum in the public eye as he appears to be the favorite to go No. 1 in the 2026 NFL Draft.

His focus is on the Heisman, but he’d rather win a title first. Here’s what Simpson told Jim Rome on Tuesday’s show.

“Would be extremely blessed, right? Would be a great opportunity. It’s super exciting, right? I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my teammates and everything they do. But I think back to the reason why I came to Alabama and the championship hallway that we have. There’s only four Heisman trophies, right? But there’s six national championships in there. So that’s what I really care about.”

That’s the attitude you’d expect from Simpson and any quarterback, but it’s good he’s acknowledging his personal goals, too. It’s silly to think he doesn’t want to win the Heisman and become the top pick in the NFL draft. Still, he knows winning is part of that journey, and it will help him more in life than any other individual accomplishment.

Alabama is off this week and will pick up again next Saturday against LSU.
