Earlier this week, the college football world was caught off guard when the LSU Tigers decided to pay over $50 million to say sayonara to head coach Brian Kelly. Typically, if a team in your conference has underperformed to the point that you are firing your head coach midseason, that’s a good thing.

Except when your the first team to play that school after they make said move. That’s the exact situation that the Alabama Crimson Tide finds itself in next weekend. A trap game thanks to the interim coach bump.

The good news is, Kalen DeBoer and the rest of the Tide know what that means, and they already expect a new look to the Tigers.

LSU offense likely to feature a new look against Alabama

“Really, it’s just the one side of the ball with the offensive coordinator position on their end, and so just understanding you might get some different looks, some different tendencies, things like that. So, those players are out there and we understand how talented they are,” said DeBoer during Wednesday’s SEC call.

“They got a lot of juice, a lot of speed, lot of playmakers. So, we gotta be at our best, and seeing teams that come together or seeing teams that fall apart, we can’t worry about that, [be]cause we don’t control that piece. We can just control who we are and we gotta continue to get better on our end.”

What can’t be forgotten is that LSU was noted as a preseason title contender. We can save the preseason rankings discussion for another day, but the reason the Tigers were mentioned among the best teams in the nation is because of how talented they were/are.

Well, that talent didn’t go anywhere. In fact, it’s because of the roster that Brian Kelly was relieved of his duties on Sunday. Because a team with those levels of recruits and prospects can’t get blown out, at home, no matter how good Texas A&M is.

And that is the exact problem. Because now it’s a clean slate for the LSU players. Garrett Nussmeier no longer has that black cloud hanging over him on offense, and the team in general will come out with a nothing to lose mentality.

That’s exactly what Alabama has to guard against.
