The Commanders saw a surprising bounce-back from a player that they might have to lean on this week with injuries
The Commanders will likely turn to a surprising player on Sunday night.
The Washington Commanders are looking to save their season with a must-win matchup at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
Injuries are the storyline of the week once again, and as always, it’ll be next man up at many positions. We saw Terry McLaurin and Laremy Tunsil both get injured against the Kansas City Chiefs, and McLaurin is already ruled out for Sunday night.
Tunsil, on the other hand, is a name to watch after missing the first practice on Wednesday with his hamstring injury. If he can’t go, he will likely be replaced by Brandon Coleman, who came in last week with no notice and dominated.
Brandon Coleman bounced back with Laremy Tunsil’s injury
Tunsil left the game early against the Chiefs after a hamstring injury, and Coleman came in after being active for the first time since Week 2. Coleman started at left tackle last season and did a great job, but the move to left guard hasn’t gone too well so far this year. Seeing him come back at play at a high level at left tackle is exactly what the team needed to see from him.
Coleman didn’t allow a single sack or hit and only three pressures after coming in with no notice. The Commanders might have to lean on Coleman at left tackle for this week, with Tunsil’s status unknown for Week 9.
Laremy Tunsil might not play Week 9
As we’ve already seen this season, hamstring injuries can be tricky and need to be handled with caution. Tunsil left the game briefly before trying to play through it, and then soon decided to sit out the rest of the game, which was the smart thing to do. The Commanders shouldn’t rush Tunsil back, who has been one of the best left tackles in the league this season, and make sure he’s healthy for the long haul. He started the week by missing the first practice, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t practice at all this week.
Seeing Coleman play well at left tackle should give the Commanders the confidence to roll him out on Sunday night and rest their franchise left tackle, Tunsil. Coleman has also been a name talked about a lot recently in trade deadline talks, with him being inactive every week, but he might have shown that he’s here to stay. Protecting your franchise quarterback is priority number one, and having a deep offensive line will always be a great roster trait.
