Jaire Alexander gets traded, and Packers fans might not have to wait long to see their former All-Pro defender again
Months after being released from the Packers to sign with the Ravens, cornerback has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jaire Alexander will be on the Green Bay Packers’ way sooner than expected, and for multiple reasons. On Saturday, the former All-Pro cornerback was surprisingly traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN’s insider Adam Schefter.
The Eagles received Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick for Baltimore. Jaire had a $2 million base salary, so Philly absorbs around $1.1 million.
What it means for the Packers
Jaire Alexander was slated to face the Packers in Week 17, when the Baltimore Ravens come to Lambeau Field. That encounter will happen much sooner. Presumably, Alexander will make his Eagles debut on Monday, Nov. 10, when Philadelphia plays the Packers on “Monday Night Football.”
While the Packers haven’t had outstanding cornerback play this season, Jaire Alexander’s trade and lack of production for the Ravens is further proof that general manager Brian Gutekunst made the right call by deciding to release Alexander from his big contract earlier this year.
Performance in Baltimore
Alexander, a former two-time Second-Team All-Pro cornerback, seems like to have lost a step after so many injuries. He played only two games for the Ravens, in Weeks 1 and 5, and had mostly been a healthy scratch for the last few weeks.
He played 61 defensive snaps, allowing a 118.8 passer rating when targeted. PFF gave him a 31.0 coverage grade.
The Eagles were already in the Market for a cornerback, so the addition of a player at the position is not a surprise. The team has started Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Adoree’ Jackson. Earlier this week, the Eagles had already acquired Michael Carter II from the New York Jets.
Jaire Alexander was a first-round pick for the Packers back in 2018 — Gutekunst’s first draft pick as a general manager. Despite a productive career and a big extension in 2022, injuries derailed the final part of his stint in Green Bay.
