Jayden Daniels suffers devastating injury that will haunt the Commanders coaching staff for a long time
The Commanders face their biggest fear after a questionable decision.
The worst possible thing that could happen to the Washington Commanders has just occurred, and it will lead to some serious discussions about one particularly regrettable decision.
Monday night’s game was over before halftime, if we’re being honest, but it was definitely over in the fourth quarter when the Commanders were down 38-7. For some reason, the Commanders kept franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels in, and it was the worst decision this coaching staff has ever made.
Daniels was trying to compete for his team like he always does, and he went down awkwardly on his non-throwing arm and suffered a significant injury that will haunt this coaching staff forever.
Jayden Daniels suffers severe arm injury
The Commanders were down 38-7 with eight minutes left, and Daniels was still sent out to go on offense. He ended up going down, and his arm snapped on a nightmare play, and he had to leave the game with a bulky arm brace on his left arm.
I won’t share the play or speculate on the exact injury, but his arm bent in a way that it shouldn’t, and the decision to roll him out there in a blowout will be discussed for a very long time. Daniels was just coming back from an injury, and having him play in a 38-7 game is very questionable.
Of course, it was a freak injury, and you can never expect something like that to happen, but you have to protect your quarterback, who already took too many hits during the game.
The decision to have Daniels continue playing will involve very serious discussions about the coaching staff, and action needs to be taken. We have no idea when Daniels will be back, or what the injury looks like, but where does this team go from here?
Adam Peters needs to get to work and make changes
You just possibly lost your franchise quarterback for the rest of the season, and who knows how long until he’s back, so the season is well over now. The trade deadline is under 48 hours away, and this team needs to go from sell mode to fire sale.
Major changes need to happen this season from top to bottom, and that starts now. General manager Adam Peters needs to do some serious reflecting on the mistakes made this past offseason, and gut the roster and coaching staff. There are no other answers at this time.
Seeing Daniels go down with a significant injury was the worst possible thing that could happen in this nightmare of a season, and the decision to have him out there will be heavily debated. Drastic changes need to happen now.
