That move happening clearly signals one thing.

The NFL trade deadline hits today at 4 p.m. ET, meaning teams around the league are busy working the phones to see if any last-minute deals can get done.

For the Cleveland Browns, there’s a chance they could be active today, but so far, that hasn’t happened. Cleveland has already made three trades during the regular season: acquiring LT Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans, sending QB Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, and swapping CB Greg Newsome II for Tyson Campbell from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, one recent deal elsewhere does have an impact on the Browns.

The Jaguars are clearly buyers and looking to contend for the playoffs after adding WR Jakobi Meyers

Cleveland owns Jacksonville’s first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, thanks to the trade in April that moved the Browns out of the No. 2 overall spot.

The Jaguars used that pick to select WR Travis Hunter, while Cleveland added DT Mason Graham. How Jacksonville performs this season directly impacts where the Browns will make that first-round selection — and by just trading for Meyers, the Jaguars signaled they’re aiming for the playoffs.

Jacksonville is off to a 5–3 start this season, which would slot their first-round pick at No. 19 overall for Cleveland. The Jaguars also have one of the more favorable schedules remaining, with two games against the Tennessee Titans and one against the New York Giants.

Having two first-round picks could be a major advantage for the Browns if they decide to move up for a quarterback in the draft. Even if they don’t, they’ll have a chance to add two high-end players to their roster.

Jacksonville needed wide receiver help with Hunter on injured reserve, and they found it in Meyers, who has 352 receiving yards so far this season after surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career last year. What was once thought to be a potential top-12 pick for the Browns now looks like it could fall into the 20s if things go as the Jaguars hope.
