Is there anything left to say about what the Cincinnati Bengals did on Sunday? The Bengals lost another mind-boggling game, 42-47, to the Chicago Bears in front of their home crowd to enter a much-needed bye week. They were without Trey Hendrickson yet again, and his absence was just one variable that factored into how they looked on film.

Let’s see what the snap counts had to say about the Cincinnati’s loss to the Bears.

Chase Brown controls the backfield

Sunday was reminiscent of a late 2024 game for the Bengals the way Chase Brown (65) had total market share dominance at running back. An ankle injury for Samaje Perine (1) took away the usual rotation Cincinnati has developed in the backfield. Brown stayed on the field almost 100% of the time as the Bengals needed as many points as possible, which paved the way for a career-high 14 targets in which he caught eight of them for 75 yards.

Perine’s injury did allow rookie Tahj Brooks (3) some exposure on offense, and maybe we’ll see more of him while the veteran heals up.

There goes Mitchell Tinsley again

If the Bengals had like six Mitchell Tinsley (17) clones at different positions, this season would probably be a lot better for them. Tinsley continues to make plays with very limited opportunities, and his 27-yard near-touchdown helped set up a real touchdown to Tee Higgins (56).

Higgins and Andrei Iosivas (57) had some of their snaps cut down as Tinsley got in the game a little more often, and if the season continues getting out of hand, that could also continue.

Expert analysis on Bengals Week 9 snap counts vs. Bears

  • Noah Fant and Drew Sample each netted 31 snaps at tight end. Fant may out-snap Sample in pass-centric games in which the Bengals are trailing, but Sample is still considered the starter.
  • Shemar Stewart (49) has barley kept ahead of pace over Joseph Ossai (48), but Stewart suffered another injury Sunday which could create more opportunities for Cedric Johnson (16).
  • Jordan Jefferson (13) became the fourth defensive tackle on the depth chart following Mike Pennel’s release. McKinnley Jackson was active, but did not see any snaps on defense.
