The Los Angeles Chargers could get back one of their most exciting young players back sooner than later. Omarion Hampton has not played for over a month, and Kimani Vidal has stepped into larger role. The Bolts may get their rookie stud RB back on the practice field with his teammates in the coming days.

Omarion Hampton takes notable step forward in return to field

Rookie running back and budding star Omarion Hampton has return to practice in some capacity. According to Daniel Popper, he was working off to the side today as he pushes to get back onto the field as he recovers from an ankle injury. Hampton has already spent four weeks on injured reserve, the minimum stint for any player.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh relayed a positive, but reserved, prediction earlier this week when it comes to Hampton. He said that he didn’t expect Hampton to return until after LA’s Week 12 bye. That doesn’t mean he would come back for Week 13, but they didn’t necessarily expect him back any sooner than the bye week.

Hampton’s production was truly ramping up just before this injury situation hit him. He had gotten comfortable in the offense, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman began to lean on him as a bell-cow option in the running game. He was also receiving increased looks from QB Justin Herbert in the passing game.

With this update, it remains to be seen if Harbaugh will need to walk back that expectation. Hampton won’t suit up this week for the Bolts, but you cannot rule out a return next week for Los Angeles’ Week 11 clash. Only time will tell.
