Cleveland Browns have a small win to take away from the embarrassing loss to the New York Jets
Another bad showing for the Browns coming out of the bye week and they’re now 2-7.
The Cleveland Browns made a big change during their bye week, as head coach Kevin Stefanski handed over offensive play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Up first after the change was the New York Jets.
Cleveland was once again on the wrong side of the scoreboard, and the offense continued to struggle. However, that wasn’t the full story, as the Browns’ special teams unit gave up a punt return and a kickoff return for touchdowns to the Jets. Coming out of a 27-20 loss, the Browns are now staring 2-7 in the face.
Cleveland’s loss to the New York Jets could have major implications for the NFL Draft order
Entering the Week 10 matchup, the Browns held the No. 7 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Coming out of the game, the Browns are sitting with the No. 4 pick for the next draft. According to ESPN’s FPI, Cleveland now has a 27 percent chance to land the No. 1 overall pick in April. Had the Browns beaten the Jets, that number would have dropped to just six percent. It’s also notable that Cleveland owns the Jacksonville Jaguars’ first-round pick.
The Browns are expected to be in the mix for a franchise quarterback in the upcoming draft. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel made his fifth start against the Jets, finishing 17-of-32 for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked six times in a performance that raises questions about when the Browns might turn to Shedeur Sanders. Cleveland has gotten a good look at Gabriel as a rookie, and it’ll likely want to do the same with Sanders at some point.
If the Browns do land the No. 1 pick, they’ll have to weigh top quarterback prospects such as Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Alabama’s Ty Simpson, who project as the top two options in the class. The Miami Dolphins’ and Jets’ wins helped Cleveland’s draft positioning — New York holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, and Miami now has its third win of the year. Additionally, the New Orleans Saints picked up their second win of the season against the Carolina Panthers.
Talking draft order is nothing new for Browns fans — it’s that time of year again in Cleveland. The Browns are a bad football team with few winnable games left on their schedule. Next up is a home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, who handed Cleveland a 41-17 loss in Week 2.
