The Washington Commanders suffered another blowout loss at home to the Detroit Lions 44-22, and this loss made history.

The Commanders’ defense has been one of the worst in the league all season, and this game just added to the resume. We knew the Lions’ high-powered offense would move the ball on the Commanders, but what we saw was embarrassing on every level.

This marks the fourth straight loss of 21+ points, which hasn’t happened in the NFL in over 20 years, making it a historically bad stretch of football.

The Commanders break an embarrassing NFL streak

The 22-point loss to the Lions means that the Commanders become the first team to lose four straight games by 21 points or more since the 2002 Arizona Cardinals. That’s not the kind of history you want to be making as a team.

The Commanders are on a five-game losing streak, which includes a 22-point loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a 21-point loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, a 24-point loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and now a 22-point loss at home to the Lions. This team is drastically different from how it was last season, and there’s no juice or belief on the field right now. They’re just getting run over week after week with no changes.

We’ve seen this result every week, and now it’s hit rock bottom with players taking out their anger on the field after Daron Payne got ejected for punching Amon-Ra St.Brown in the head in the second quarter.

What happened to the Commanders?

Yes, the Commanders have had numerous injuries on both sides of the ball, but every team deals with injuries, and it’s no longer an excuse at this point. This team looks defeated, and they have for weeks. The last four blowout losses should be a wake-up call to the players and coaching staff, but instead, it feels like a trend that will continue for the rest of the season.

The Commanders are heading to Madrid, Spain, next week to take on the Miami Dolphins, which looked like an easy win and a vacation before the season, and now not so much.

The Dolphins just shocked the Buffalo Bills with a 30-13 blowout win, and the Commanders look like the actual bad team in the matchup. The Lions had 546 total yards on offense, which is the second-most by a team this season, and anything is possible with the Dolphins’ speed on offense.
